About Us

The Center for Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behavior is an internationally recognized research institute skilled in consulting, project management, method development, educational sensory and consumer research.

What we do

As a Sensory and Consumer Research Provider

For nearly 30 years, the Center for Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behavior has provided confidential, effective solutions for more than 100 domestic and international companies. We have experience evaluating: foods, beverages, cosmetics, fabrics, packaging, paints, health care, personal care products and fragrances as well as the flexibility of a wide range of methodologies. Our professional staff are experienced in project management and offer industry insights to your projects.  Combined with our highly trained descriptive panelists averaging more than 1,000 hours of project experience our staff provide the top quality sensory testing customized to your needs.

As a Research Facility

As a part of Kansas State University, one of the functions of the Center for Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behavior is academic research. As a research center we conduct investigations to further the scientific understanding in the field of sensory analysis and related sciences. While the primary focus of our research is in sensory analysis, we also conduct research in: food science, marketing, and psychology.

Recent research from members of the Center for Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behavior has been published in the following journals:  Journal of Sensory Studies Journal of Food Science Journal of the American Dietetic Association Nutrition Research Journal of Food Products Marketing.  Learn more about our current research on our research page.

As an Educational Institution

The Center for Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behavior at Kansas State University provides an unparalleled educational opportunity for individuals interested in obtaining a Masters or Doctorate in Sensory Analysis.

While completing a degree graduate students will:

  • Take classes in sensory analysis, consumer behavior, descriptive sensory analysis, statistics, marketing, and psychology
  • Assist or teach classes in sensory analysis, food science, and/or nutrition
  • Work on both consumer and descriptive sensory projects for some of the largest international companies
  • Become eligible to obtain a 3 month to 1 year experience as an intern with a leading company.  Previous students have had internships at companies such as: Coors, S.C. Johnson, Nestle, M&M Mars, Unilever, Nabisco, Avon, and PepsiCo.
